Personal & Self Defense Training

Firearm Instruction, Responsibility, Home and Personal Defense Safety Training is the NRA’s and USCCA's response to the American public’s need for firearms orientation programs and defense training for both new and experienced owners of firearms and those wishing to take responsibility for their own, and their loved one's safety.

Beyond basic firearm operation, some owners pursue advanced training in self-defense tactics and situational awareness. This training prepares them for potential real-world scenarios, emphasizing legal considerations, tactical skills, and the ethical use of force. Such preparation is viewed as an essential component of responsible ownership. It underscores the seriousness with which they approach the privilege of owning and potentially using a firearm for protection.

The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting course is a great way for you to learn the basics of pistol shooting. This course includes classroom and range time. The course includes essential gun safety rules, different types of pistols and which one may best for you, the basics of ammunition, the fundamentals of pistol shooting, different shooting positions, the most common shooting errors, and proper gun cleaning and maintenance. There will also be opportunities for skill development presented.

USCCA's Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals is a comprehensive overview for anyone considering owning or carrying a firearm for self-defense as well as learning about home and self-defense. The course is a complete compendium that includes gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, pistol selection and storage, shooting fundamentals, pistol inspection and maintenance, marksmanship, and shooting range safety, conflict avoidance, situational awareness, handgun, shotgun and AR-15 basics, the physiology of violent encounters, the legal aspects of using deadly force (including knowing what to do in the aftermath), and a complete guide on gear, gadgets, and extras.

These courses meet the requirements to apply for your Virginia CHP with reciprocity in 35 additional US States.
